Drive on the LEFT
Rental cars are relatively cheap and probably the best way to get around , but all traffic drives on the left. All the big brands are represented at the airport, with local companies also part of the action.
Be warned that there is only one gas station in St John, in Cruz Bay. That said, most people get around by taxi, indicated with a placard or license plate. They are easy to find in Charlotte Amalie, St. John and St. Croix around the ports.
Only St. Thomas and St. Croix have a reliable bus service, leaving from Charlotte Amalie and completing circuits of the island in St. Thomas and running between Christiansted and Frederiksted on St. Croix. Local Vitran buses link tourist destinations on St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John.
While ferries are still a significant part of life on both the BVI and USVI (see ‘How to Get There’ section) regular seaplane flights link St. Thomas and St. Croix, and St. Thomas and Tortola.
