Where to Go

Where to Go in Jamaica

Although Kingston, the capital, is on the south coast of the island, it no longer serves as the conventional point of entry for tourists, who typically fly into Montego Bay on the north coast. For the beach hedonist, everything is conveniently arranged along the coast, with all the major resorts, cruise ship ports, and tour companies in attendance. Don’t miss Negril’s legendary Seven Mile Beach for the energy as much as the scenery, while Dunn’s River Falls in Ocho Rios is the island’s most photogenic natural feature, where water cascades through the forest over a tiered waterfall. From the resorts, you can easily book day trips into the mountainous interior, or to go rafting along the rivers, but it’s worth setting aside some time for the capital, not least to visit the Bob Marley Museum and even take a guided tour of Trenchtown where it all began.
