Few sights shout Puerto Rico as potently as El Morro fort in Old San Juan, an easy walk from the main hotels clustered around the capital. If you only have a day on the island, the old city will not disappoint, with a collection of historic buildings, upmarket restaurants and craft shopping within easy reach. For longer stays, it’s worth heading to El Yunque rainforest, the only one in the US, for hiking and even camping, while people come from all over the neighboring islands to swarm Puerto Rico’s outlet malls for bargains.
