Where to Go in the Bahamas
Although the Bahamas archipelago spreads across a vast area almost the size of Colorado, most of the action is centered around Nassau and Grand Bahama, where the cruise ships dock. Focus on these areas for the best shopping, dining and accommodation. In Nassau, the looming salmon-colored towers of the Atlantis resort are one of the Bahamas’ most-photographed and film-featured landmarks, while Port Lucaya in Grand Bahama is a relative shopping Mecca. The Bahamas’ so-called Out Islands, on the other hand, offer the isolated, laid-back experience that most would associate with the Caribbean desert island. For divers, Andros island is an essential stop, with the third largest barrier reef in the world, while some of the world’s finest beaches are scattered among the deserted cays of Abacos, The Exumas, Harbour Island and beyond.
